Congratulations! If you are here you are probably pregnant and looking for newborn photographer to capture those precious first few weeks. This post is to help you with any questions or concerns you may have about choosing and scheduling a newborn session.
When should I plan my newborn session?
You session should take place the fist 5-10 days of baby’s life. The earlier the better. Reserving your spot should be taken care of before baby arrives. To reserve your time with me, I suggest booking your date at least three months in advanced. Once baby arrives you can contact me and we will schedule your date and time.
Where does the session take place?
Depending on the photographer, your newborn session can take place in your home or studio. I prefer the family’s home because adjusting to your new schedule can be challenging. Coming to your home allows you to have extra time to get ready and prepare for your session. If you prefer you can come to my in-home studio located in Blue Bell. PAl. Whichever works better for my client.
What should I expect?
It will depend on your session choice. If you choose to come to my in-home studio there will be a more posed setup for baby and nice neutral pictures of mom, dad and sibling(s) with baby. The focus is mostly on baby with this type of session.
Lifestyle sessions are a bit different. I find them to be more relaxed because you are in your home. The focus is still on baby and there will be some posed pictures but there will also be a concentration on environment and details as well.
Both sessions will take at least two hours, but can go as long as four hours. So plan on being with my a good part of your morning.
How to prepare?
With either session baby will need a nice full belly. So plan on feeding baby at least 30 minutes before my arrival or before you plan to leave for studio sessions. Don’t worry, there will be plenty of time for breaks and feedings based on baby’s needs.
For lifestyle sessions, I recommend tidying up the family, master, and baby rooms. These are the most common rooms to photograph in. You will just want to remove things like magazines, books, burb clothes, tissue boxes, etc.
I normally start with baby so mom and dad can relax and finish getting dressed. I know how challenging it can be taking care of a newborn and getting dressed and ready yourself. Starting with the baby gives your extra time to get ready.
What to wear?
I like the organic and natural clothing option. So I suggest solid earth tone clothes. Please avoid pure white and pure black. Especially on dad. I suggest natural colors, such as, charcoal, tan, khaki, cream, olive, etc paired with a nice pair of jeans. Dad’s please long sleeves and not buttons as they can scratch baby. Mom’s a nice cotton shirt, blouse, or sweater. Again, please avoid patterns and stripes plus make sure you do not have a hair-tie on your wrist. Baby’s I suggest a nice neutral onsie. It can be either white, pale blue/pink, or neutral.
When can I expect my images to be ready?
My normal turn around time is 2 weeks. Once your gallery is ready for viewing I will contact you and we will set up a date and time for your viewing session. Your viewing session is where you can have me help you with wall displays, product selection, and the ability to see my product offerings first hand. I offer both A La Carte pricing and collections that include digital images. You can see my investment page here.
If you have any further questions or would like to book a session with me, please contact me.
